Privacy Policy

Mole is a local-first notes app. Notes, threads, conversations, and their Markdown content are stored on your device. Mole does not upload that library for syncing or advertising.

Data we process

• Anonymous service data: a random installation token created by the app, an internal identifier, and security records used to establish a session and prevent abuse. Mole stores one-way keyed hashes of the installation token and request address, not login information.
• Purchase and entitlement data: verified App Store transaction identifiers, product, subscription status, and AI credit balance.
• AI usage metadata: request purpose, token counts, credit usage, request status, and provider request identifier. Mole does not store the prompt or AI response in these records.
• AI request content: only when you choose an AI feature, the message, selected text, conversation history, and note context needed to answer the request are transmitted securely. This content is relayed through OpenRouter to Google Gemini and is not retained by Mole after the request completes.

How we use data

We use this data only to secure sessions, deliver AI responses, maintain credits and purchases, prevent abuse, provide support, and operate and secure Mole. We do not sell personal data, serve advertising, or use advertising trackers.

Service providers

With your permission, OpenRouter receives your AI request content and routes it to Google Gemini to generate an answer. Both services process that content. Their handling of data, including retention, is governed by their applicable terms and privacy policies. See the OpenRouter Privacy Policy and the Google Privacy Policy.

Mole uses contracted providers for cloud hosting, database infrastructure, and AI inference. Apple processes App Store purchases under Apple's own privacy terms. Providers receive only the data needed to perform their service and are required to protect it.

Your choices

You can decline or withdraw permission for remote AI processing in Settings → Privacy & AI. Local notes remain available when permission is off. You can delete Mole cloud data from Settings → Privacy & AI. Deletion permanently removes your anonymous identity, credits, session records, AI usage metadata, and Mole purchase records. Deleted credits cannot be restored. Limited one-way fingerprints are retained as explained below. Notes and threads remain on your device unless you delete them there. App Store subscriptions must be canceled separately in your Apple settings.

Retention and security

Cloud records are retained while the anonymous identity is active and deleted when you use the in-app deletion control. To prevent the same credits from being issued again after deletion, Mole retains one-way fingerprints of the random Apple purchase account token and previously issued credit sources, together with deletion dates. These limited records do not contain your notes, AI request content, original account token, or original transaction identifiers. They are kept for as long as the service must recognize replayed purchases. Restoring a purchase does not recover forfeited credits; future subscription periods and new purchases remain eligible for credits. Providers may retain limited records under their own legal or security obligations. Mole uses encrypted network connections and access controls designed to protect data.

Children

Mole is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
